Obituary

Frederick Lynn Asher, Spearfish, was born May 15, 1936 to Walter G. and Vivian (Anderson) Asher at O'Neill, NE. At the age of nine the family moved to Woodbine, IA where he was raised and graduated with the class of 1954. He did two years undergraduate studies at Morningside College in Sioux City, Ia. It was there that he met his wife Glenda Goodmanson. They were married on June 3rd, 1956. In July of that year they moved to Iowa City, IA, and Fred entered Dental School at the University of Iowa. Following graduation in 1961 he fulfilled his Military obligation by enlisting in the United States Public Health Service and serving two years on the Duck Valley Indian Reservation in Owyhee, Nevada. By 1963 the family had increased by 2. Steve was born in Iowa City in 1958 and Lisa was born in Elko, NV in 1962. They decided to go back to Cherokee, Iowa where "Doc" was blessed with a great group of patients and a loving & loyal staff. After 35 years he decided in 1998 to retire to his favorite place in the world, his cabin in the Black Hills. They made it permanent in 2002.

Doc had a passion for antique cars and restored many over the years. He piloted his own aircraft and enjoyed and spent many Sundays conducting the services at the local airport. .

Doc was a member of the Iowa Dental Association, Masonic Lodge 307 AF & AM, Cherokee, IA, Past Potentate Abu Bekr Shrine, Sioux City, and member of Spearfish Masonic Lodge #18 AF & AM, Naja Shrine and the Spearfish Flying Aces. He especially enjoyed conducting bus tours at the High Plains Western Heritage Center in Spearfish.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, cousins Sherry Hill and Dick & Peggy Lichty, special aunt Thelma Jaynes of Deadwood, & several Aunts and Uncles.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Asher, Spearfish; son Steve and Wendy Asher, Rapid City, daughter, Lisa (Dr. Buck) Davis, Albany, GA; three grandchildren, Buckley, Finley and Asher Davis. Cousins Mike Stewart, Mike Clark, Jim & Jack Asher, H.O. Hill, Sherrill Dunwiddie, and Shirley, Dennis, Patty, Douglas, Darrell, & Phyllis Lichty.

A prayer service and time of fellowship will be offered at 6 p.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis on Friday, March 7 with Masonic Rites offered at 7:30 pm.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Whitewood Presbyterian Church in Whitewood with Pastor Steve Agan and Pastor Skip Smith officiating.

Private family committal services will be at the Rosehill Cemetery in Spearfish.

Memorials have been established to the Whitewood Presbyterian Church, Naja or Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Funds, and Hospice of the Northern Hills.
