IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Joseph
Marvin
August 10, 1950 – February 26, 2018
John Joseph Marvin, born August 10, 1950, suffered a long battle with heart disease that finally, sadly, took him away from us February 26, 2018. Beloved son of Tim and Johanna (Carr) Marvin, and brother to Mary, Anna, and Tim, John was born in Wallace, ID. He went to school in Sturgis, SD, and learned ranching in Elm Springs, SD.
John worked at Dickson Saw Mill before being drafted into the Army in February of 1970. While serving in Vietnam, he obtained expertise with grenade launchers, M16 rifles, and machine guns as well as earning a Service Medal, Campaign Medal, Company Infantry Badge, and two Purple Hearts.
John spent nine years working on the Durham Buffalo Ranch near Gillette, WY, before moving his family back to Sturgis where he eventually retired from the Housekeeping Department at Fort Meade.
John shared his life with his soulmate, Carol (Ulrich) Marvin since 1969 and never could two people be more as one. Their union was blessed by Elizabeth Dawn (Brian Morgan), Gillette, WY, John Marvin, Jr., Rapid City, SD, Melvin (Krista Keene), Sturgis, SD, Toby, Sturgis, SD, Jessica (Mason Abell), Sturgis, SD, and Dorothy, Spearfish, SD. His grandchildren are Patricia, Rebecca, Ruth, Wally, Danny, and David Morgan and Paige and Roman Abell. John's great-grandchild is Ethan Morgan who will be joined by a younger sibling this June.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at Church of Christ in Sturgis, SD. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
