Guy Tillett was born in Indiana and graduated from Butler University with a Bachelor of Sciences in Biological Science and Indiana University with Master's Degree in Teaching Biology. This was interrupted by two years of Naval Aviation at Pensacola, FL, and Kingsville, TX.
Guy was an educator, teaching life sciences for 10 years in the secondary schools in Indiana and advancing to the collegiate level in 1967 as a part-time faculty member for National College of Business what was to become National American University. In 1969, he relocated to the Black Hills, continuing on to a full-time faculty position in 1970 and later named the Dean of Students.
For 49 years, Guy Tillett dedicated himself and his work to the success of students at National American University. The longest employed staff member at NAU, he played an active role in the evolution of the university as it currently exists. He authored a book on NAU history titled Milestones, The 70-year progression of National American University. In honor of his dedicated service to NAU, Guy was presented with an honorary doctorate degree in 2015. Most recently he served as one of the Directors for the NAU Foundation.
As wildlife enthusiast, photographer, author and artist, Guy guided wild turkey hunters from all over the USA for more than 30 years. He maintained active membership in several wildlife organizations. His photographs have been used on magazine covers and in article illustrations nationally as well as by The State of South Dakota. He authored books on North American wild sheep and Black Hills birds.
Guy presented several wildlife video programs for youth and adult groups at various venues in Rapid City and Black Hills area.
Guy, 82, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
Guy is survived by spouse, Kathy; daughter, Lisa; son, Mark; and grandchildren, Lindsey, Trevor, Lauren, and Trent; brothers-in-law, John (Steph) Prascher, Craig (Carla) Prascher, and Dan (Mary) Prascher; and nephews, Will, Brian, Chris, Scott, and Matthew; and niece, Katie.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2018, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
