Franz L. Dethlefs, 78, of Rapid City, SD, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2024 at Avantara Mountain View.

Franz was born in Mitchell, SD to Daniel and Ruth (Cunningham) Dethlefs on August 9, 1946. Following his graduation from High School in Pierre, SD Franz enlisted in the US Navy. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, he moved to Rapid City where he worked various construction jobs, retiring from Fichter/Davey Construction. Franz was an avid hunter and spent many days enjoying the wildlife in the Black Hills.

Franz is survived by his brother, Lowell Dethlefs.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arelene; brother, Larry; and sisters, Betty and Lois.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be at Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 12:30. A luncheon at the Eagle's Club will be held immediately following the service.
