Obituary

Sylvia Lorraine Fuller, 87, of Spearfish, SD, passed peacefully on March 3, 2022, surrounded by angels and holding Jody's hand.

Sylvia was born July 11, 1934, to Ray and Louise (Thybo) Wicks. Growing up in Slim Buttes, SD, Lorraine rode her horse to school, once there she turned her horse back home.  Her grandma would release her trusty steed out to go back to school and pick her up. She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1952 and journeyed to Denver Nursing School whereby night she sold cigarettes and by day attained her Nursing degree.

A man in an Air Force uniform, George Fuller, won her heart in 1957, a short-grass country nurse married a steel city serviceman from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The couple moved to Abilene, TX, when George's Air Force unit relocated. After his service, they moved to Rapid City, SD, where Mitchell and Arthur were born and then a move to Spearfish, SD, where Kimberly was born.

Lorraine served as a Public Health Nurse while George earned his teaching degree at Black Hills State College. George then taught at her old High School in Belle Fourche while Lorraine continued service as a Public Health Nurse.

In Lorraine's early days as a mother, she bussed her children to pre-school on her pink two-seater bicycle with her baby in the basket.

Lorraine worshipped the sun and outdoors. She was the happiest enjoying some quiet time sunbathing.

Her passions were creatures, pigs, gardening, pigs, and more pigs.  The family lived outside of Spearfish where they had a Shetland pony, a horse, dog, cat, and of course a pet pig named Porky. She protected the pig from any and all danger, especially from the Shetland pony, Patches.

George began custom woodworking and building homes and Lorraine helped. Lorraine continued to serve, trading a stethoscope for a paint brush and mixing stains. Together they built a business. They built many custom homes and provided custom woodworking services for a variety of different projects from airplane hangars, local banks, and businesses.

After George passed in 1992, Lorraine regained her nursing license and served the elderly at the Dorsett Home. She tended patients with colleagues who would eventually come to care for her.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Mitch Fuller, Omaha, NE, Arthur Fuller (Jody Olson), Sturgis, SD, and Kimberly Torres, Sterling, CO.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents, Rayfield and Louise (Thybo) Wicks, her husband, George Fuller, and her granddaughter, Brooke Fuller.

A big heartfelt thank you goes out to all family and friends who helped in so many different ways with Lorraine's care over the last years.
