Obituary

Wade was born in Dee, OR, on December 26, 1936, to Robert and Edith (Mailloux) Sheeder. Wade passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020, in hospice care at Spearfish Canyon Health Care Center.
Wade spent his growing up years in Sturgis. He was 16 when he joined the U.S. Air Force and spent the next 20 years flying and working on large plane engines in many different states where he was stationed over the years. During the Vietnam War he served by flying missions in and out of Vietnam, dropping supplies and bringing home fallen soldiers. Wade was very proud of his service to his country and never lost his desire to fly.
When Wade retired from the military and returned home to Sturgis with his wife, Karla and their five children, he began carpentry school and worked fulltime at the VA hospital. Wade was military through and through and that's the way he conducted himself as a father - not always easy to please or understand, but always honorable in doing what he thought was best at the time. He finished raising all of his children on his own, from the ages of 2 to 16, three of them being teenage GIRLS. He remarried and adopted another young son who he raised as his own. His children are grateful for his perseverance in sticking it out with each one of us as it was not an easy task to be both mom and dad to teenagers and toddlers.
Wade had many hobbies in his lifetime which included camping, fishing, hunting, archery, silhouette target shooting, sailing, skiing, golfing, bowling, and dart leagues. He loved hobby trains, running his own gun shop, ATV's, and motorcycle riding. He taught himself to fly small engine planes and soloed many places on his own as well as taking anyone up who was brave enough to fly with him. His final activities involved camping and traveling in his RV until he began having health issues. Whatever Wade set out to learn and do he did it. He wasn't a quitter because his stubbornness never let him be one. A lot of great memories were made and funny stories about his many escapades will continue to be shared by those of us who experienced them or heard of them. Wade was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and spent his last few years trying to maintain some independence while battling this progressive, soul consuming disease. In the end, he succumbed and it was heart wrenching to be a witness to the battle. He is at peace now. We hope in time, we will also find peace with it.
Wade is survived by his sister, Louise; his children, Corinne, Vince (Jackie), Lesa, Brett (Linda), Monica, and Trent; along with 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great- grandchild, and numerous nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother; and both of his parents.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 5, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
