Beverly was born on April 10, 1956, in Hot Springs, SD, to Earl and Eleanor Burnison. At a young age she gave her heart to Jesus. Her faith was central to who she was and impacted every area of her life. She graduated from Augustana with a degree in nursing. She married George Swales, and together they had three beautiful children. After moving to Rapid City, Beverly began working for Rapid City Regional Hospital as a nurse. Her children remember her as a radiant, quirky, encouraging mother who was always their biggest cheerleader in life. In 1994, she remarried to Tom Schoenstedt and welcomed his daughter, Leah as her own. As a family they enjoyed boating, camping, and ski trips to Colorado.
Beverly was an amazing nurse who over the span of her career touched countless lives, treating all her patients through touch and words with unforgettable grace and empathy. She was a bright light who always offered a smile to those in need. One of her biggest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. At a young age she lost her Father to a plane accident. Bev credits Sugar-babe her horse with getting her through one of the most difficult times of her life. In High school she had a long list of accomplishments including cheerleader, homecoming queen, and Bev was also part of the National Honor Society. Bev traveled to Europe before college with a friend and just a backpack. She was quite the adventurer. She loved traveling with her husband Tom, especially on their mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Honduras. With a warm loving smile like Bev’s it didn’t matter to the kids that they didn’t speak the same language, they knew that she loved and cared for them. More recently, she had an increased burden for the plight of women and children that suffered at the hands of sex trafficking. She was always a great spiritual and physical support to her husband, Tom and his ministry work. For Tom, next to God she was the most important person in his life. The Joy she brought to him was nothing he had ever experienced before.
