Esther was born February 10, 1937, in New Underwood, SD, on a small farm where she lived with her parents, Alfred and Esther (Ibsen) Jenison. Esther grew up and graduated from New Underwood High School until she moved with her family to Rapid City, SD. In the fall of 1954, Esther met and married the love of her life, Chester Carl Dial on May 21, 1955. The couple settled in Rapid City where they raised three children, Carl, Carla, and Alfred. While raising the family, Chester and Esther lived in several locations while he worked with the local 454 iron workers union. After retirement, he and Esther stayed in Rapid City to live out their later years. Esther enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending church, and spending time with their family & loved ones. Esther and Chester attended First Church of God in Rapid City and both were also members of the Rapid City Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Esther Mae Dial, 83, passed away in her home on Sunday August 2, 2020.
Survivors include a daughter, Carla Gell, Rapid City; son, Alfred Dial, Box Elder; brother, Harold Dial, Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Vera & Michelle Gell, Rapid City, Brandy Dial, Box Elder, and Christopher Dial, San Antonio, TX; nine great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Jake, Preston, A.J., Mason, Aybrie, Quinton, Harmony, and Lillianna.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Carl Dial; father, Alfred Jenison; mother, Esther Jenison; sister, Alta Ruth Simmons; son, Carl Allen Dial; son in-law, Thomas E. Gell; and great-grandson, Quinton Gell.
Cremation was done at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD, immediately following her passing.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held from 1-4 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020, at the First Church of God (706 E. Monroe) in Rapid City.
