Obituary

Mary Jorensen, 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at her home in rural Sturgis. There is comfort in knowing she went to be with her heavenly Lord.
Mary was born August 7, 1946, in Carson, ND, to John and Katherine (Schaefer) Kopp. The family moved to Sturgis in the 1960s.
Mary’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To Mary, family was everything. The love of her life was her husband, Gene. The two married in April of 1964, and ranched near Sturgis for many years. How wonderful that reunion in heaven must be.
Gene and Mary worked together at various area sale barns in the 1970s and 1980s. Mary loved meeting new people and visiting with anyone she encountered. She worked various jobs in town, retiring from First Interstate Bank in 2010.
She is survived by her children, Kathy (Steve) Brown of Sturgis, and Barney (Dawn) Jorensen of Sturgis; grandchildren, Katie (Nathan) Wiederholt of Custer, Kyle (Shannon) Brown of Sturgis, Brody Jorensen of Sioux Falls, and Cassidy Jorensen of Dickinson, ND; and great-grandchildren, Amelia, Wyatt, Allie, and Audrey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents, John and Katherine; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 27, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Harold Delbridge and Rev. Paul Henschen officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, although Mary truly loved her flowers, memorials have been established to the Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department and Meade County 4-H.

A great chapter in Meade County history has come to a close with the loss of Gene and Mary. It is sad for me, but I guess it shouldn’t be. That she and Gene are reunited should cause me to do cartwheels. I’m just too darn old. God Bless you and your soul mate Mary.
Here’s hoping you two have a big operation on one of those clouds. Rest eternally friends.

Kathy, Barney and families,
My sincerest sympathies in the loss of your mom. Your mom will truly be the brightest star now because of the beautiful person she was and the way she treated others. I was so shocked to read of her passing when just the day before I had read her thanking one of you for driving her some place or eating dinner with you. I always enjoyed hearing about her grandkids in sports or looking at pictures of her flowers. I am sure the reunion she is having with your dad is spectacular. may your memories of such a lind and caring mom help you thru now and all the little things to come.

I will never forget all the Little Britches & 4-H rodeos Gene & Mary hauled me to. They were a huge part of my growing up and I am very thankful for the help and memories they gave me over the years.
