Rex DeYounge was one of the first people I met when I moved to Sturgis. His laugh was contagious and his smile could melt your heart. He was smart, caring, loving and always ready for a challenge. I really cant remember a time when he raised his voice to anyone. His sense of humor was light years ahead of many...we traveled to Phoenix to see our best friends Lori and Russ for Thanksgiving one year. I didnt realize he hadnt flown before! We boarded a puddlejumper in Rapid City and he had to sit in the aisle seat so his knees werent touching his chin. Funniest thing you could ever see...he was nervous and his legs were two seats in front of him!! He convinced the stewardress out of a drink and in Denver we went straight to the bar and two beers later we got ready to board. The big plane still caused some discomfort and he was so happy to finally land. On the way home I gave him two sleeping pills when we changed planes and he slept the entire way home! That trip was a check on his bucket list. I dont know if he ever flew again but if he did I know he had a beer before climbing on! Lol!
Through the years everytime I saw him we compared kid pictures and he always beemed w love for his girls and had so many things to tell me about them. He loved them sooo much and loved being a dad. Rex was a special person as many who knew him will tell you. The memories I have will stay in my heart forever and each time I think of him, share a story, or visit w a mutual friend I know he'll be listening and smiling that big smile of his. You will be missed my friend and our tears will fall but I know you heard our Lord's words as you crossed over, "Well done my son, well done". Thanks for the memories, the fun and the love.
