Obituary

Bill was born in Boston, MA, on May 22, 1935, to William and Mary (King) Curley. He was the second oldest of 12 children. Bill grew up in Boston where he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952. While traveling across the world, he met his beautiful wife, Ianita J. (Peterson) Curley in Honolulu, HI. He took his family to South Carolina, California, Washington, and then retired in South Carolina in 1972, after serving 20 years in the Navy. He went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in South Carolina, where he retired again after 20 years of civil service.
In 2000, he and Ianita moved to Hot Springs, SD, where they made their final home, being ever available to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of the St. Anthony’s of Padua Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association, and Elk’s Club.
William Hubert Curley, 85, passed away May 23, 2020, at home in Vale, SD.
Bill is survived by daughter, Elizabeth (Paul) Erk of Newell, SD; sons, Kevin (Rosemarie) Curley of Midlothian, VA, and James (Michelle) Curley of Goose Creek, SC; grandchildren, Paul (Allea) Provorse, Ryan (Jenna) Curley, Courtney Provorse, Casey (Danielle) Curley, Megan Provorse, Brian Curley, Chad (Amber) Erk, John (Anna) Erk, and Megan Erk; great-grandchildren, Raelee, Alice, Maggie, Sawyer, Maddie, Ferris, Townes, Lexi, Rachel, Sarah, Will, and Matthew; brothers, John, Paul, and Mark Curley; and sister, Isabel Marcum.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ianita Curley; parents, William and Mary Curley; brothers, Richard, Robert, and Michael Curley; sisters, Marylou Gunter, Dorothy Farrell, Marguerite McGrail, and Lillian Curley.
Bill is remembered by his family and friends as being smart, funny, easy to talk to (especially when talking about the Navy), willing to help anyone, and able to fix anything. He was a dedicated husband, father, and seaman and will be greatly missed.
