Obituary

Agnes Mary Peregrine, 100, Sturgis, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.

Visitation was at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Earl Eells officiating. Burial followed at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

Agnes was born on March 31, 1906 at Pleasant Valley, to Fred and Margaret (Hampton) Lamberton. She attended her first three years of school at Tilford. The family moved to a ranch 15 miles north of Sturgis in 1915, where she finished grade school in a country school. Agnes attended two years of high school in Sturgis and then received a teaching certificate from Spearfish Normal in 1926. She taught 12 years in rural Meade County and 13 years in Sturgis Public Schools.

She loved her students and teaching.

Agnes married Ervin Peregrine at Sturgis on May 27, 1950, and they lived in Pierre from 1951 until 1970, when they moved back to Sturgis after Ervin's retirement.

Agnes was active in the Sturgis Christian Church and she taught Sunday School. She was also active in her beautiful garden and loved visiting with friends, family and her former students. Agnes was a very loving and caring person. She was ever so humble and generous with her time and talent. She was thrifty and very modest. Agnes was a benevolent person and gave to a Christian College and well as several children's homes.

Survivors include several cousins and many nephews and nieces.

Her parents, her brother Paul and her husband Ervin, preceded her in death.
