Agnes was born in Sturgis, SD, on August 15, 1928, to Clinton A. and Mattie (Murphy) Thompson. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1946.
Agnes married Louie Scherer on February 22, 1947. She devoted her life to raising her 6 children. Over the years, she did various crafts, including baking, embroidery, ceramics, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. We estimate that she made well over 100 afghans. She followed her husband wherever his employment took him, living in Sturgis, Lead, Wyoming, Indiana, Ohio, and California, finally living at Aspen Grove Assisted Living before entering Sturgis Regional Senior Care.
Agnes Scherer, 91, rejoined her husband on Sunday, January 19, 2020, passing at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.
She is survived by five sons, Rodney (Maria) of Battle Mountain, NV, Larry of Lead, Patrick (Kathy) of Sturgis, Mark of Clancy, MT, and Louie (Angie) of Sturgis; one daughter, Cecilia (Brian) Davidson of Lancaster, OH; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Louie; parents, Clinton and Mattie; and brothers, Melvin, Lloyd, Richard, and Louie.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2020, at St. Martin's Chapel in Sturgis with Father Timothy Castor officiating. Committal services will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Agnes' name to St. Martin's Chapel, c/o St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1049 Howard Street, Sturgis, SD 57785.
