Obituary

Alan Jospeh Bennett, 70, Newell, SD, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Monument Health Spearfish, SD.

Alan was born in Auburn, New York on April 22, 1954 to Joseph and Betty (Atkins) Bennett. Two years later he was baptized in Throopsville, NY, on May 25, 1956. On September 9, 1972 Alan received his GED. He lived in Throopsville, NY and worked as an auto mechanic before Alan helped his parents move to Phoenix Arizona. He was going to continue west to California, but ended up staying in Arizona. He had been a mechanic but moved into forklift operating, loading merchandise trucks at Silo where he met Cheryl.  Alan and Cheryl were married June 1, 1994.

Alan always loved going to auctions and buying cars to fix and resell and having yard sales. Alan would handle the tools, autos and stereos and Cheryl and Alan's mother Betty would sell the household items that Alan had gotten at the auctions.

Alan & Cheryl moved to Newell, SD, in November of 2000. In the fall of 2006 Alan moved his mother Betty from Florida to live him in Newell after his sister Donna Bennett's Passing away. When the cars got too complicated with computers he moved to other small engines like chainsaws. He always loved calling Cheryl to tell her about his buys and then selling them. Alan continued to love having yard sales. He was very blessed that his close and dear friend Tiffany would let him use her yard as she had a better location in town.

Alan is preceded in death by both his parents, Joseph and Betty Bennett and his sister, Donna.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Cheryl Bennett, Step-Son, Aaron Bennet; several Cousins on his mother's Atkins side, and also some family on the Bennett side.

Alan had a love for animals and strays always seemed to find open doors for a loving home at his place. In honor of his love for animals we ask that memorial money be sent to A Place for Meow Rescue:  www.aplaceformeowrescue.org. They have also stepped up to foster and help rehome Al's 2 surviving fur family, Tiger and Harley.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.kinkadefunerals.com.
