Obituary

Newcastle - Alan Elmer Kaufman, 59, Newcastle, Wy, born January 20, 1954, died March 16, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital, after a strong and stubborn battle against liver cancer. He was surrounded by his loving son, Josh; the mother of his grandchild, Katie White and close friend Kari Webb. Alan was born in Scottsbluff, NE to parents Elmer Henry Kaufman and Mildred (Hicks) Kaufman whom he loved and spoke of often. They preceded him in death. Alan is survived by his beloved son Josh Alan Kaufman; grandson, Alan Ray Kaufman who was miraculously born 34 hours after Alan Elmer passed. Also surviving are two sisters, Sharon (Al) Grief, Buckeye, AZ, Laurie (Paul) Pugsley, West Pueblo, CO and one brother Scott (Chris) Kaufman, Minatare, NE. Alan grew up working on various Nebraska farms, and in 1972 he graduated from Scottsbluff High School. He came to Newcastle, WY with the oil field industry in 1980 as an employee of Tru oil and quickly established himself in that field. He was a valuable employee of Farnworth and Kaiser for many years and then Farnsworth Inc. He had a love for the oil field like only the other oil field workers can understand and proudly passed that on to his son, Josh. It was a constant topic of conversation. Without a doubt, the greatest Love in his life was his son Josh. They were the best friend each other could have ever had. Unlike most other men, they were never afraid to hug and kiss each other in public. They always said "I Love You every time they left each other and that remained true to the end. Their passion for Harley's, cars, working in the shop at A&J Salvage till all hours just so they could be together was unmatchable. The certainty of that tradition carrying on with his grandson is undeniable as some who may believe they met in passing. Alan was more honest, caring, forthright and hardworking than any other. He was valuable as a Father, Grandfather, true friend and the Love of so many lifetimes for very, very many. He will be sorely missed by many. Upon his request cremation has taken place. A memorial ride will be announced at a later date. Memorials and condolences may be directed to Josh Kaufman, 3299 N. Sage Circle, Newcastle, WY 82701.
