Alan Charles Varland, 57, of Spearfish, SD, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Belle Fourche Long Term Care.

Alan was born May 5, 1956, to Percy and Beth Varland in Deadwood. He worked as a ranch hand in his 20s and spent the last 20 years at the Belle Fourche Care Center.

Alan is survived by sister, Mary Ford; brothers, Merle (Janet) Varland, Dennis (Gwen) Varland, Don Varland and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Beth Varland; daughter, Susan; paternal and maternal grandparents; sister, Caroline Skiles; brothers, Robert, Billy, and Terry Ford.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the MS Foundation.
