Bert was born on April 20, 1934, to Jean and Dorothy (Klein) Winkley in Ekalaka, MT.

Raised in rural Carter County, Bert left Montana in 1953 to join the Navy where he performed sea duty aboard the USS Franklin D Roosevelt and USS Ashland.

He was honorably discharged with the rank of MML2 (Machinist Mate General 2nd Class).

Albert Donald "Bert" Winkley, age 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 17, 2014. From December 2013 to the time of his passing, Bert thoroughly enjoyed the care and attention given him at Black Hills VA Health Care Center in Fort Meade, SD.

He is survived by two brothers, George (Mamie) and Jim (Audrey); four sisters, Helen, Betty, Clara, and Barbara; his daughter, Nancy, and granddaughter, Nicohlette; his son, Donald, and granddaughter, Madelyn; along with a host of much loved family members and friends.

Bert is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Sam, Chuck, and Matt; and one sister, Rustee.

A memorial has been established.
