Albert Philip Weiss, 92 of Maurine, SD passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Golden Living Center, Ipswich, SD.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. May 25, 2011 at the First Wesleyan Church in Sturgis, SD with Pastor Sam Cowles officiating. Following the luncheon at the Wesleyan Church fellowship hall, interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Monument Hill Cemetery west of Maurine, SD. Following interment, there will be a time of visiting with the family at the Prairie Home Church with the Community Ladies serving coffee and desserts.
Albert was born November 3, 1918, to William and May Weiss at their home in South Eastern Iowa in Lee County. When Albert was 9 months old the family moved to Meade County and the Maass Ranch on Pine Creek was purchased. Albert attended West Pine School and graduated the 8th grade. Albert stayed on the ranch and herded sheep and raised Black Angus cattle. On November 2, 1946 Albert married Mazy Miller of Maurine, SD. They lived on the Weiss home ranch for the next 60 years. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary in 2009. Because of failing health Albert & Mazy lived with their daughter Rosa Jean and Jim Hendricks in Littleton, CO for 3-1/2 years, the last 6 months he lived near daughter Coretta and Rod Anderson as a resident of the Golden Living Center, Ipswich, SD.
Survivors include his children, Rosa Jean (Jim) Hendricks, Littleton, CO, Lyle (Miriam) Weiss, Maurine, SD, Linda (Jim) Shada, Bellevue, NE, and Coretta (Rod) Anderson, Roscoe, SD; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Fern and husband, Don Patz, Albuquerque, NM; sister, Doris Rudesill, Fargo ND; and sister-in- law, Joyce Weiss, Sturgis, SD.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mazy; infant sister, Rosa Louise; parents, William and May Weiss; brother, Donald Weiss; and brother-in- law, James Rudesill.
A memorial has been established to the Cedar Canyon Bible Camp, Maurine, SD. Albert and Mazy were instrumental in helping establish the camp 52 years ago.
