Aldene was born May 6, 1924, to Harry and Celia Napton at Petrel, ND, west of Lemmon, SD. She grew up and attended school at North Lemmon Consolidated School, where her dad received his education.
She spent a little over two years at the NorthWest Bible School at Lemmon, SD. After that she moved to Aberdeen, SD, and worked as a nanny for a business couple.
After the war was over, she came back to Lemmon, where she met Vern Carmichael whom later became her husband. They were married July 16, 1946, at Lemmon on a ranch that Vern had purchased. They raised a family of six lovely, healthy children. Aldene also worked at the Faith Memorial Hospital as a laundress, until the hospital closed.
In 1976, she began working as a cook at the Oasis Longhorn Café in Faith, SD. It had changed hands several times but still kept the same "Ole Cook". She worked at the same café for 15 years. In 1994, she worked at the Elderly Meal Program for nearly three years. She was also the treasurer for the Englewood Township for twenty-five years and sat on the election board many times. In 1997, she started writing the local news for the Faith newspaper. She loved her yard, flowers, and also made many crib quilts.
Surviving her are her daughters, Patricia (Tom) Heffernan, LaCrosse, WI, Peggy Falvey, Lemmon, SD, and Judy (Ed) Taylor, Caputa, SD; sons, Arlen R. (Connie) Carmichael, New Underwood, SD, and Dean "Dusty" (Lori) Carmichael, Thompson Falls, MT; her brother, Orville Napton, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death is her dear husband, Vern in September of 2000; a dear son, Vern Jr. in 1988; five brothers, John, Richard, Ray, Gordon, Leo, and Robert Napton; and son-in-law, Patrick Falvey.
