IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice Jeanette
Marrs
December 5, 1928 – April 17, 2024
Alice was born on December 5, 1928, in the Queens Village, New York to Johanes (John) and Anna (Nervik) Moller. She was the youngest of four siblings. She attended PS 135 in Bellaire, New York and then went on to graduate from Jamaica High School Class of 1946 in Jamaica, NY on Long Island. She also took business classes at New York University in NYC, and she gained proficiency in short-hand and typing which resulted in her landing a job with McGraw Hill Publishers and then later as an Executive Secretary in the office of the president of Teachers Insurance and Annuity (TIAA). She considered herself a professional with a code of conduct to "keep your ears wide open, and your mouth shut." As a young woman she loved to play the piano and organ at her church, go to Jones Beach and be close to her family and the Norwegian community on Long Island.
She married the love of her life, Ray Albert Marrs, on December 5, 1953 (her birthday). Through this union they raised four children on Marrs Ranch in Whitewood Valley. Early in marriage she developed an egg business with some 4000 chickens to supplement the family income. She and her family attended evangelical churches in both Lead and Nisland, SD. For over twenty years, in the 1980's, 90's and into 2000's, Alice volunteered with Stonecroft Ministries, known as "Christian Women's Club," in the Northern Hills. She learned leadership skills which she passed on to other women. Alice mentored women as she guided the Northern Hills Christian Women's Club in Spearfish. Her work lives on today in the Northern Hills Connection, which meets monthly in Sturgis, and in the lives and hearts of the women she mentored throughout her life.
Alice never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone.
Alice Jeanette (Moller) Marrs, 95, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday April 17, 2024, at Monument Health Sturgis Hospital.
Survivors include daughter, Annette (Bob) Lamb of Nisland, SD; son, Daniel (Anna) Marrs of Whitewood Valley, SD; daughter, Kari (Knute) Henning of Arlington, TX; daughter-in-law, Linda Marrs; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
