Funeral services for Alice Virginia Shuck, 92, will be Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Reverend Bruce Thalacker officiating.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 6th, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Interment will follow in the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
Alice was born Sept. 15, 1914, in Pleasant Valley to Ernest B. and Mary Ellen (Conlon) Lamberton. She attended grade school in Upper Pleasant Valley School and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1933.
Alice married Claude L. Shuck in Rapid City Jan. 1, 1938. They lived and ranched in Tilford and Bear Butte Valley before purchasing a farm west of Vale in 1944. It was at Vale they raised their family of six and were very active in all their children's school and sport activities. She also was very active in a ladies neighbor club.
Her talents of sewing, quilting, gardening, and cooking were enjoyed by all family members.
In 1977, the farm was sold to their son Neil and Faith, but she continued to live on the family farm until the death of her husband of 42 years. The past 26 years she has lived in Sturgis. During those years she renewed her artistic abilities by taking painting classes.
She was supportive and dearly loved by her children and their families. Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.
Survivors include three sons; Jerry (Bernita) Gillette, WY; Neil (Faith) Vale, SD; Lynn (Cheri) Spearfish, SD ; and three daughters Karel (Marvin) Aga, Sturgis, SD , Luann (Doug) Melum, Rapid City, SD , and Marietta (Jack) Marler, Sturgis, SD. She also is survived by thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Claude, one sister, Mary Hunt, and one brother, Ernest. J. Lamberton.
