IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alice
Walthall
July 16, 1928 – January 25, 2021
Alice was born July 16, 1928, in Streeter, ND, to Christ and Katie (Rohrbach) Schumaker, where she grew up helping her parents maintain the homestead and make ends meet. She married her soul mate, Oscar Walthall on June 17, 1951. Where they moved to Lead, SD, and raised their two children Jerry & Judy. They lived a simple loved filled yet eventful life. Which if you knew Oscar, understand the eventfulness and adventurous memories those two got to create.
Once Oscar retired from Homestake, they purchased their farm outside of Sturgis, SD. Where they enjoyed ranching and entertaining their grandkids. They remained on the ranch until 2006, when they moved into Sturgis, SD. Where they continued to make memories and live their eccentric entertaining loved filled life.
When Oscar passed in 2017, Alice was heartbroken and lost without her partner. She continued to live in their home until 2018, when her health started to decline. She lived in an assisted living home until the summer of 2020, when she agreed to move in with her daughter, Judy in Chatham, IL. During that time, she got to enjoy many trips to see grandkids and great-grandkids. She got to spend Holidays with family and build a special bond with her youngest great-granddaughter.
Alice was the epitome of what a wife, mother, grandmother and even great-grandmother was. Even though she was a quiet soft spoken woman, she was a jokester and loved to laugh. Not only will her love and hugs be missed but so will her laugh, smile and tender-heartedness.
Alice (Schumaker) Walthall, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother peacefully passed at the tender age of 92 in Chatham, IL, on January 25, 2021.
Alice is survived by her sisters, Edna (Harvey) Cox, Sturgis, SD; Joanne Pope, Dothan, AL; Hazel Brink, Newell, SD; and brother, Oliver Schumaker, Sturgis, SD; her children, Jerry Walthall of Cottageville, SC, and Judy Sealock of Chatham, IL; grandchildren, Michael (Cody) Walthall, Phillip (Hope) Walthall, Holli (Michael) Crawford, Heleina (Cameron) Mixon; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Oscar Walthall; her parents, Chris and Katie Schumaker, and siblings, Rudy Schumaker, Helen LeLaCheur, Irene Tammy, and Delores Short.
