Alma Roemmich, 88, Piedmont, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Visitation was from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Visitation resumes one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Monday, April 10, 2006, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont, with Pastor Steve Trefz officiating. Burial was at the Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadwood at 4 p.m.
Alma was born Dec. 23, 1917, at Wishek, N.D., to Leonard and Christina (Hagel) Martel. She grew up around the Wishek area where she attended school.
She married Walter Roemmich at Wishek, on March 20, 1938. The couple first lived in Eureka. While raising a family, they lived in central South Dakota around Ree Heights and Ipswich until 1960, when they moved to Deadwood. They lived there until Walter passed away in 1979. Alma then moved to Piedmont .
Survivors include her son, Clifford Roemmich and his wife Judy, Piedmont; daughter, Stella Chabnaux, Nebraska; six half-sisters, Pauline Marzolf, Ella Stebner, Emma Vilhauer, Magdalena Syverson of Lodi, Calif., Eva Hanson, Linton, N.D., and Eleanora Lance, Pryor, Mont.; two half-brothers, Elmer (Margie) Martel, St. Michael, Minn., and Donald (Shirley) Martel, Silver Springs, Nev.; sisters-in-law, Carol Martel, Eureka, Judy Martel, Washington, and Delores Martel, Lodi, Calif.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter; one son Jimmy; one daughter Doris; three brothers, Jacob, Alvin and Adolph; two sisters, Anna and Alma's twin Lea; three half-brothers, Philip, Albert and Arthur; and one half-sister, Martha.
