Obituary

Alva was born December 29, 1930, to Tommy and Thekla "Brown" Olson in Sturgis, SD. She grew up on a ranch by Maurine, SD, and attended country schools in Meade and Perkins counties. Her mom taught her the first seven years of her schooling. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1948. Following graduation, she attended the Western Union School in Crawfordsville, IN. Upon graduation, she was employed as a relief manager for Western Union, covering a five state area.

Alva married John Lekberg in 1952 and one son, Michael, was born in 1953. They later divorced and she married Roger Stone in 1963. One son, Norman, was born in 1964.

Alva started working at the Sturgis Community Hospital as a receptionist and admissions clerk in 1959. She worked in various departments of the hospital and in 1967 was appointed the Assistant Administrator, a position she held until 1981 when she accepted Human Resource Director. She retired in 1994 after 34 and one half years.

Alva and Roger enjoyed dancing, camping and playing cards with friends and family after retirement. They also enjoyed taking bus tours within the US and Canada. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, doing ceramics, decorating and tending her flower beds.

She was a past member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.

They sold their home in Sturgis in 2001 and moved to Sioux Falls, SD, so they could spend time with family and their little granddaughter, Tatum. They were able to babysit their granddaughter and as she grew older, attend her sports and school activities. Needless to say, they enjoyed every minute being able to be with her and spoil her! In 2011, they decided to move back to Rapid City and the Black Hills to be closer to family and friends.

Alva Lucille Stone, 84, Rapid City, died Friday, September 25, 2015, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
