Obituary

Alvin Steven Heidrich, 62, Sturgis, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at his residence in Boulder Canyon.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. The family will be present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Fr. Arnold Kari officiating. Burial with military honors follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established.

Alvin was born July 17, 1949 at Linton, ND, to Joseph and Magdelena (Schumacher) Heidrich. The family moved to Nisland when Alvin was just a baby. He attended elementary school in Nisland and graduated from high school in Newell. He helped Jack Dick farm near Nisland while going to high school.

Following graduation he served his country with the US Army in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Australia where he married Annette Dobbie in Sydney. He worked construction for several years before returning to Nisland.

Alvin worked in building maintenance at Fort Meade for 27 years before retiring. He helped around the neighborhood in Boulder Canyon, plowing roads, cutting wood and taking care of things. He liked to shoot pool, dance and was an avid card player

Survivors include his sons, Neville Heidrich, Sydney, Aus, Brad Bachand, Sturgis, Kevin Heidrich, Rapid City; daughters, Renee Heidrich, Rapid City, Milessa Heidrich, Sturgis, Lora Heidrich, Honolulu, HI; brothers, Joe Heidrich, Nisland, Harry Heidrich, Belle Fourche; sisters, Linda Crandall, Belle Fourche, Helen Gross, Rapid City, Bev Watson, Belle Fourche; 7 grandchildren; special friends, Gracie, Russell and Delbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
