Alvin Francis Jensen, 87, Whitewood, passed quietly on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at the Jensen Ranch with his family present.
Visitation will be from noon until 9:00 pm at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in
Sturgis on Thursday with a prayer service beginning at 5:00 pm.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish on Friday, June 25, 2010 with Pastor Kent Stillson officiating. Burial will be held at the Little Dane Church Cemetery between Whitewood and St. Onge.
Alvin was born August 21, 1922 at the Jensen Ranch near Whitewood, SD, to Katrina (Weisman) and Jens Peter (Pete) Jensen. He attended the Asbury grade school and graduated from Lead High School in 1940. He also attended South Dakota State University before returning to the ranch. He had met Georgia Dunmire in high school and they were married on June 24, 1945. He farmed and ranched his entire life with his hands on the present and his eyes on the future, with Georgia both literally and figuratively at his side.
Alvin was very active on a broad array of community service and civic organizations, devoting his life to his family, his church, and others that he could reach.
He is survived by his wife Georgia and his children; Katherine Jensen (Audie Blevins), Laramie, WY., Cliff Jensen (Lonnie) and Karl Jensen (Celia), Whitewood, Mary Kay Miller (Dave), Silverton, OR. Scattered around the country and the world are his fourteen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. His sister, Edna Cowan, lives in Boise, Idaho.
Memorials may be made to either Hospice of the Northern Hills or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
