Jean was born December 19, 2017, at Philip, SD, to Gaylord and Marie (Marrington) Hudson. She grew up on the family ranch in the Kirley, SD,
area. She attended country school and graduated from Pierre High School. Jean received her teaching certificate from Spearfish Normal and taught
school in the Milesville and Hereford areas.
She met Marvin Keffeler at the wedding dance of mutual friends. Their first date was a rodeo in St. Onge, SD. They were married 63 years raising
three children together. They moved to Whitewood in 1958 where she lived until 2017. Jean worked at the grocery store in Whitewood. She was a substitute teacher and custodian at the Whitewood grade school. Many a student was told to "Wipe Your Feet!" She was an Avon lady until she turned 80 years old and was the only active charter member of the "8-10" Club in Whitewood from 1961 until 2016. Upon retirement, Marv and Jean took a bus tour to the Rose Bowl Parade. This was the first of many bus trips around the United States. Jean Keffeler, 91, Spearfish, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in Spearfish.
Survivors include sons, Doug (Nikki) Keffeler, Watertown, and Brian (Debbie) Keffeler, Whitewood; daughter, Sheryl (Emmitt) Pittman, Whitewood; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Hudson, York, NE, and Dick (Gene) Hudson, Midland, SD; sister, Norma (Larry) Schenkel, Lincoln, NE; and sister-in-law, Phyllis (Stanley) Miner, Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; parents; sister, Doris; sister-in-law, Sharon; and Marvin's sisters and their husbands,
Evelyn (John), Carol (Bob), and Beverly (Gene).
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial in her name for the Whitewood Presbyterian Church and the 8-10 Club.
