Obituary

Anna B. Rose, 96, of Cheyenne, Wyo., formerly of Sturgis, S.D., died Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

She was born September 17, 1913, in Vintondale, Penn., to John and Mary Balog. She grew up in the Vintondale area and in 1931 graduated from Vintondale High School. She attended and graduated in 1934 from the school of Nursing at Philadelphia General Hospital in Philadelphia, Penn. In 1942, she entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corp and served on a hospital ship in both the Mediterranean and Pacific theaters.

Anna married James A. Kaye on October 6, 1946, in Reno, Nevada. Following their marriage, they moved to San Francisco where she worked as a private duty nurse. On November 25, 1947, her husband was lost at sea and following the birth of her son, she returned to Lebanon, Penn., where she worked at the V.A Hospital from 1948-1956. She then entered the Univ. of Penn. and received a B.S. in Nursing.

On April 5, 1958, Anna married Art E. Rose in Bear Butte, S.D. They made their home in Sturgis, S.D., where Anna was employed with the Sturgis Community Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1978.

She was a board member and was a member of the S.D. Nurses Association, 1st Vice President and Chairman of the General Duty Section, served 2 terms as President of District 2, SDNA, served 5 years on the S.D. Board of Nursing, Member and Past President of the Hospital Aux., and served 4 ½ years as blood drive chairman. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, St. Veronica's Circle and Altar Society, Meade County Senior Citizens, and AARP.

Survivors include her son, Tony (Meg) Rose, Cheyenne; a brother, John Balog, Pennsylvania; and two grandchildren, Sara (Ron) Bonjean, and Stephanie Rose.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, James A. Kaye and Art E. Rose; her parents; three brothers, Mike, Andy, and George Balog; and one sister, Mary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sturgis Regional Hospital Scholarship Fund.

Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

A rosary will be held Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

A memorial mass will be Monday, November 23, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Inurnment, with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's honor guard, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
