Arlene Mae Munroe, 81, Gillette (formerly of Sturgis, S.D), passed away on Monday, March 14, 2011, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wy.
Arlene was born in Cedar Canyon, S.D., rural Perkins County on May 16, 1929 to Robert and Blanche (McGillivary) Packer.
She attended grade school thru the 8th grade in Perkins County. For 9th and 10th grade she stayed with her grandpa Packer in Belle Fourche, S.D. She finished high school in Sturgis S.D. She then went on for her teaching degree at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.
On May 30, 1951, she married Walter "Babe" Munroe in Sturgis, S.D. From this union three children were born, Walter Bruce Munroe, Dean Charles Munroe and Gayle Lynn Munroe Grimsbo.
She taught 4 years in country schools in N.D. and S.D. She worked at the sale barn in Sturgis for 6 years. In 1970 she started at the court house as a deputy in the Meade County Register of Deeds, where she stayed until retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce Munroe (Virgie), Bridge City, Texas and Dean Munroe (Cindy), Sturgis, S.D.; one daughter, Gayle Grimsbo, Gillette, Wyoming; two sisters, Gladys (Toots) Pullins, Hot Springs, S.D., Norma Deibert, Laramie, Wyoming; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, Dale Packer; one infant daughter and one great grandson, Coby Clausen.
A memorial has been established to Sturgis Hospice
Visitation will be from 12:00- 9:00 PM Sunday March 20 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be on Monday, March 21, at 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Denzel Nonhof and Pastor Bob Rudichar of Gillette, Wy. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetary.
