Summerset| Arlene V. Opitz, 77 of Summerset, died Tuesday March 11, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Arlene was born May 30, 1936 to Rudy and Othellia Duwenhoegger in Browns Valley, MN. She lived in Sisseton, SD on the family farm until she married her husband, Vernon and they moved to Eden, SD on Vernon's family farm. They moved to Huron, SD in 1958 where she served the people of Huron for 30 years as a waitress. Upon retirement, they moved to the Black Hills to be close to family. She loved her family and friends very much and was the best mother and grandmother ever. She loved fishing, camping and her dog, Abby. Survivors include a son, Vernon Opitz, Billings, MT; a daughter, Marilyn Dieken, Piedmont; a sister, Lillian Sailer, Rapid City; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother; a son-in-law; and a great granddaughter. Memorial services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 15, at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis with Rev. William Zandri presiding. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, March 17 at Rest Lawn Memory Gardens in Huron with Rev. Terry Anderson presiding.
