Arlene Joyce (Cleveland) Thovson, 88, of Rapid City, South Dakota quietly passed away Thursday evening, May 22, 2025, at Fountain Springs Nursing Home.

She was born on November 10,1936 to Floyd and Hazel (Knapp) Cleveland, as one of ten children. She grew up on the family farm and attended a country school.

At the age of 19, Arlene married Sherman E. Thovson Sr. who was by her side right until the end. Over the course of their marriage, they lived mostly in Rapid City, SD, where they had four boys: Sherman Jr., David, Rick, and James.

Over the year Arlene did numerous jobs, but her biggest chore was raising those four boys and one over-grown-man-child named Sherman Sr., (lol). She loved gardening and taking the time to spend with her grandchildren.

Arlene is survived by her loving husband: Sherman Sr., and four sons: Sherman Jr. of Rapid City, David (Kathy) of Rapid City, Rick (Gena) of Rapid City, and James (Bonnie) of Rapid City; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; three brothers, Dale Cleveland, Calvin (Linda) Cleveland, and Charles (Lorraine) Cleveland; and one sister, Gloria Echols.

Arlene will be dearly missed and forever loved. The joy she brought to this world will never be matched nor replaced. But comfort can be taken in the thought that her presence in heaven is bringing joy to those who she now joins.

Visitation is Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4 to 6 pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Rapid City.

Funeral Services are Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11 am at the church. Following the burial at Pine Lawn Cemetery a luncheon will be hosted at the Moose Hall on E. St. Patrick Street.
