Obituary

Arlet Bernita Liedtke was born on Christmas Day (December 25), 1922, in

Emery S.D. to John and Martha Lehr. The Lehr family lived on a farm outside of Emery for many years until Arlet's father opened and operated the Lehr Family Grocery Store in downtown Emery, where Arlet spent many hours as a girl. She graduated from Emery High School in 1940 and married Reuben Liedtke on January 19, 1941. They lived on the Liedtke family farm near Wessington Springs, SD for several years and eventually moved to Sioux Falls where they lived most of their lives, attending Central Baptist Church and raising 3 sons, Chuck, Kim and Curt.

Arlet's many interests during her 92 years of life included her occupation as a Lab Technician, gardening, oil painting and teaching Sunday School. She and Reuben retired in 1976 and moved to Arkansas where they lived for several years before returning to Sturgis in 1978. They lived in Sturgis and Rapid City until Reuben's death in 2004. Throughout her life, her primary joys were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and serving her Lord in many capacities.

After Reuben's death, Arlet lived with her sons and families, Edgewood Vista (Spearfish) and the Sturgis Regional Senior Care where she died on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the age of 92.

Survivors include her 3 sons: Chuck (Nikki) Liedtke, Branson, Mo;

Kim (Gwen) Liedtke, Humboldt, SD; Curt (Jan) Liedtke, Sturgis, SD;

one brother, Roger (Bessie) Lehr, Emery, SD; her 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Her parents and husband preceeded her in death. A memorial has been established to Foothills Community Church, Sturgis, SD.

Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at the Foothills Community Church in Sturgis with Pastor Brian Carpenter officiating. Burial follows at the Emery Community Cemetery near Emery, South Dakota at 6 p.m. CST.
