Arthur Gordon Morris, "Grandpa Gordie," 64, Sturgis, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023, surrounded by family at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska. He was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.

Gordie was born on October 29, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Art and Oleta Morris; he was the youngest of four children. He grew up in Cincinnati and spent a lot of time at his family's property at the lake in Kentucky. Gordie met Cathy in the Spring of 1982, and he moved to the Black Hills. They were married on September 29, 1982, and started their family. He loved to spend time with his wife, kids, and grandchildren.

Gordie enjoyed taking his kids and grandchildren hunting, fishing, camping, and bowling. He was best known for his jokes and pulling pranks, especially at the expense of Cathy. Later in life, Gordie enjoyed traveling to visit family and motorcycle rides through the Black Hills. Gordie didn't pass up the occasional chance to gamble, using his fold money. Later the fold money reserved for gambling was used for negotiations with his grandchildren.

Even as a young kid, Gordie always had a knack for problem-solving, mechanical or construction. Whether he was disassembling/reassembling his toys or his sister's bicycle or building a dune buggy from scratch, he was a jack of all trades.

Throughout his life, Gordie enjoyed all aspects of racing, including motorcycles, go-karts, dune buggies, and cars. He could be seen at the Black Hills Speedway helping friends with their race cars on Friday evenings. He enjoyed helping Christy race her go-kart and occasionally watched NASCAR races.

Gordie worked in several different fields throughout his life. While he was in Ohio, he started his career at 16, working in a body shop, painting vehicles, and continued that career into the mid-80s. He then transitioned to construction, manufacturing guns, and ended with concrete work with his close friend LeeRay.

Gordie is survived by his wife, Cathy Morris; four children, Arthur (Jen) Morris, Carolynn Morris, Christina (Phillip Zaugg) Morris, and Catelynn Morris; 17 grandchildren; and his sisters, Joslyn (Tony) Kolaz, Rhonda (Frank) Henagar and Sondra (Dennis) Setser.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Art and Oleta (Sellers) Morris, and Cathy's parents, Melvin and Rita (Gregg) Barta.

Our family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for the loving and compassionate care Gordie received.
