Audrey Jane (Chesney) Balcom was born in Omaha, Nebraska on October 14, 1924 to Lee R. Chesney and Rena (Beach) Chesney. She graduated from high school in Lincoln, NE in 1943. Audrey married Everett Balcom on March 23, 1946 and they settled in Rapid City, SD. She passed away at home on April 11, 2011 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Audrey was a long standing member of the First United Methodist Church and the Rapid City Society for Genealogy Research. Her interests included stamp collecting, square dancing, painting, and genealogy. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Everett Balcom, their four children: Nancy (and Randy) Crabtree of Edenton, NC, Lester (and Leslie) Balcom of Wheatland, WY, Barbara (and Floyd) Preszler of Rapid City, and Carol (and Scott) Lawhun of Rapid City, SD, her brother Lee R. (and Bette) Chesney, Jr., sister Rena Lameyer, 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee R. and Rena Chesney, and a grandson, Michael Crabtree. A memorial service will be held on May 13, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Rapid City.
