Obituary

Averil Mae Yuill, 84, Whitewood, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Averil was born October 1, 1929, at Stratford, SD, to Louis and DeEtte (Campbell) Rossow and grew up in the Black Hills area. Averil spent the happiest years of her childhood during grade school at Stratford, nurtured by her beloved aunt, Alvina, and uncles, Adolph and Bill. In 1946, she graduated from Deadwood High School. She worked at the 1st National Bank for two years.

On November 2, 1947, she married Eugene W. Yuill. To this union, five children were born. Averil was an exceptionally loving mother. They lived on a farm outside of Whitewood for over 60 years.

Averil was famous for her delicious homemade biscuits; she baked a triple batch every week for over 50 years. She was a Sunday school teacher at Whitewood Immanuel Lutheran Church. She had a special gift for letter writing and wrote weekly letters to uplift and encourage family and friends. Averil loved the Lord, lived by His word, and encouraged others to grow in faith. A humble, giving, caring person, she strove every day to find the positive in life and to share kindnesses with everyone she met. An avid reader, she also enjoyed scrapbooking, nature, bird watching, sewing, and crafting.

Survivors include three sons, Randall (Renata) Yuill, Naperville, IL, Russell (Linda) Yuill, Sturgis, and Ray (Violet) Yuill, Alliance, NE; one daughter, LaVon Yuill, Sturgis; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and dearest friend, Cleo Loobey, Sturgis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene; one brother; and a daughter, LeAnn Glenn.
