IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bailey Albert
Cleland
October 5, 1990 – September 25, 2019
Bailey Albert Cleland passed away on September 25, 2019. He was born October 5, 1990, the second son of Lori and Kelly Cleland.
Bailey attended Sturgis Brown High School, where he participated in wrestling and baseball. He graduated in 2009, and went to work in the oil fields for a short time. He ended up returning home to work in the concrete business, which he loved.
Bailey was a true outdoorsman. He spent most of his time hiking, backpacking, fishing, and just being outside. When camping with the family, it was Bailey's job to start the campfire, always ensuring that they would have the biggest one in the campground. He also enjoyed guns and was quite the marksman. When he wasn't outside, Bailey enjoyed reading about history and science and tinkering on things at home. He was also a skilled artist, and loved to draw (especially fish!).
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said, "You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him." Bailey was a kind, loving person who deeply cared for animals and little kids. As a child, he was always rescuing all kinds of bugs, snakes, turtles, fish, and other creatures to bring home. He loved all animals, especially his dog, Jeffe, whom he took everywhere. He was so good with little kids and spent much of his time teaching and playing with his nephew, Oliver.
Bailey is survived by his parents, Lori (Vollmer) and Kelly Cleland; his brother, Kirby Cleland and nephew, Oliver; his sister, Molly (Alex) Raber; his grandmother, Esther Cleland; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved dog, Jeffe.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Reverend Kris Garlick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Bailey Cleland Memorial Fund, which will go to The Club for Boys in Rapid City.
