Obituary

Barbara Lou Claymore, 73, Rapid City, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Her family will greet friends at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday evening, July 26.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2010, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Greg Blanc officiating.

Barb was born May 7, 1937, at Phoenix, AZ, to Henry and Lovie (Jones) Gale. She moved to Piedmont with her family in 1953. She was a member of the last graduating class of Piedmont High School in 1955. Barb worked for Bell Telephone in Rapid City.

She married Elra D. Claymore at Rapid City on August 27, 1955. The couple lived in Rapid City and Barb continued to work for Bell Telephone until they started to raise a family.

Barb started bowling in 1959. She held many offices in the Rapid City Women's Bowling Association. On March 31, she retired from Bowling after 50 consecutive years of league bowling. She was a longtime member of the WIBC and the USBC and was a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame.

She enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She was a good seamstress and crocheted afghans for underprivileged kids. She was also active in her support for WAVI.

Survivors include her husband, Elra Claymore, Rapid City; sons, Larry Claymore, Sarona, WI, and Dan Claymore, Rapid City, SD; one daughter, Cathy (Bruce) Elford, Frederic, WI; brother in laws, Gay (Vicki) Claymore, Henderson, NV, and Ted (Dawn) Claymore, Sidney, MT; sister in laws, Darlene Symonds, Lotus, CA, Beverly Earley, Sturgis, Betty (Hilton) Haraldson, Sturgis, and Patsy (Chip) Futteree, Hay Springs, NE; 6 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brother-in-laws, Gunner Earley and John Symonds.

A memorial has been established to Hospice House.
