Barbara Jean (Hansen) Erickson, 90, of Piedmont, South Dakota passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023, at home.

She was born on February 8, 1933, to Albert and Ethel (Doane) Hansen at Vayland, SD. She lived near Burdette, SD and attended Bultman Rural School to fifth grade, until March 1944, when they moved west of Tulare, SD. She graduated with the Tulare Class of 1950.

She worked a short time for Wilson Forwarding Company, in Huron, SD until returning to the farm to help her father. Barbara married Robert A. Erickson at Tulare Methodist Church on November 17, 1951. They lived at Tulare until moving to Lead, SD from 1955 to 1963 when they returned to Tulare where they opened a Standard Oil service station and garage. In 1971, they acquired the Albert Hansen farm west of Tulare, moving to the farm in 1976. Barbara and Robert moved to Piedmont, SD in 2000.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; two children, Susan Sires and Daniel Erickson; three grandchildren, Shauna (Richard) Woodward, Jason and Jeremy Erickson; six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert A. Erickson, Jr. in 1956; a brother, Ronald Hansen; two sisters, Sharon Arneson and Jacqueline Bales; and son-in-law, Barry Sires.
