Bernard "Bernie" C. Hart, 63, Rapid City, died Monday, November 27, 2006, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 1, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Chaplain Herb Cleveland officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery with the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard providing military honors.
Bernie was born November 21, 1943, at Sturgis, SD, to Kennard and Hazel (Arneson) Hart. He attended grade school at the Lodge School near Hereford and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1963. After High School, Bernie attended the National Technical Institute in Denver to study electronics. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 and served time in Vietnam. He returned to Denver and worked for Honeywell. Bernie returned to South Dakota in 1980. He has worked construction since coming back to South Dakota and was currently working for Hills Materials. Bernie won a master craftsmanship award for welding and fabrication pipe lines. Bernie also received the employee of the year award in 2003 while working at Hills Materials.
Bernie married Patricia Buchanan at Fort Meade, SD, on February 14, 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Hart, Rapid City, SD; daughter, Lydia and her husband, Scott Brewer, Piedmont, SD; son, Byron and his wife, Becky Thompson, Colorado Springs, CO; brothers, Fred Hart, AZ, Ed and his wife, Tawny Hart, Fennville, MI; sisters, Helen Blare, Rapid City, SD, Carol and her husband, Edsell Roe, Rapid City, Gleva and her husband, Gene Stafford, Sturgis; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
