Obituary

Betty Mae Aker, 85, Sturgis, died Saturday, February 16, 2013, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood with Pastor David Baer officiating. Burial will follow at Whitewood Cemetery. Visitation will be at Kinkade Funeral Chapel from 2:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, with family present from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

Betty was born to Emil and Olga Opland on November 5, 1927, in Des Lacs, ND. She married Virgil Aker on November, 7, 1946, in Sidney, MT. The couple farmed in North Dakota until 1965, when they moved to Rapid City. In 1973, they moved to Whitewood.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood.

Survivors include her sons, Marlyn, Sturgis, and Mitchell (Crystal), Sturgis; daughters, Jeannie (Bill) Triplet, Black Hawk, and Virginia Albert, Sturgis; brothers, Lyle Opland, Minot, ND, Gene Opland, Des Lacs, ND, Floyd Opland, Enumclaw, WA, and Lloyd Opland, Seattle, WA; daughter-in-law, Pat Aker, La Salle, CO; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Aker; parents, Emil and Olga Opland, and a son, Michael Aker.

A memorial has been established to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood.
