Long time Newcastle resident, Betty Bennett, passed away after a short illness at the Weston County Hospital on March 9, 2016.

Betty was born July 24, 1930, and raised in Centerville, Iowa to Ray and Birdie Andrews. Betty graduated from high school in 1948, and went to work as a telephone operator. In 1951 she moved to Newcastle and continued to work as a telephone operator. Betty also worked at JC Penney's, Fountain Motor Inn and Bennett Accounting. In 1952 Betty met and later married Larry Bennett on October 25, 1952 in Newcastle. Two sons were born from this marriage. Betty was a very simplistic individual. She had a regular schedule, she would go get coffee and toast in the morning and then she would go shopping at yard sales, the second hand stores and cruising the aisles of the local retail stores. Betty's house was full of yard sale treasures, especially bird houses. Betty was a regular at the Senior Center for lunch and the dances. The biggest joy Betty had was helping to raise her eldest granddaughter Sayla. Everywhere Grandma Betty went Sayla was with her.

Betty is survived by sons Gary (Donalda) Bennett of Newcastle; Dale Bennett of Ark.; granddaughters Salya (Rob) Buffington of Osage; Daytona and Kelsey Bennett of Newcastle; great-grandchildren Ella, Skylar and Hazel Buffington of Osage; brother, Patrick G. Andrews of Smithville, Texas, favorite cousin Claralee (Don) Bitter of Centerville, Iowa; as well as her nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Larry Bennett; brothers Glen; Centerville, Iowa, Bob Andrews Des Moines Iowa; aunts Clara Beach and Sadie Parcel.

She is Buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newcastle, WY.
