Obituary

Betty Zoe Butler, 81, Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the Summit Open Bible Church in Belle Fourche with Pastor Rick Brennan officiating.

Betty was born August 26, 1931, at Draper, SD, to Willis and Hilda (Dewey) Hubbard. She moved to Vale at the age of 4. The family moved to Newell and Betty began her education at the Milberg School. She completed her education at the Newell High School.

On June 23, 1950, she married Michael Anthony Butler at Belle Fourche. They lived in Newell before moving to the Hoover area. They moved again to Harding County and owned and operated their ranch for 55 years. Betty and Mike raised sheep, cattle and horses, with horses being her favorite. They enjoyed bowling, neighborhood card parties, and hosting endurance rides. Betty was a 4H leader and member of the Cowbelles for many years.

Betty was a seamstress and sewed clothes for her children. She also made quilts for the grandkids. She refinished furniture and re-upholstered furniture. She liked to collect rocks, petrified wood, and going on paleontology digs. She was an avid reader and was noted in the community for her cherry pies. She was also known for her park like yard which included a variety of trees, flowers, birds, and her garden.

Survivors include her daughters, Dixie (Jerry) Seaman, Newell, Judy (Al) Schumaker, Edgemont, and Colleen Butler, Belle Fourche; one brother, Glen "Jack" (Anna) Hubbard, Sturgis; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, two sisters, and one son-in-law.

A memorial has been established.
