IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Ruth
Darrach
May 25, 1947 – April 6, 2017
Betty Ulrich Darrach was born May 25, 1947, in Newell, SD, to Henry Ulrich and Lula (Gottman) Ulrich. She was the youngest of nine children, and as Betty's youngest child says, "They kept going until they got the best one!" I am sure that her siblings, Henry, Helen, Jack, Vivian, Fritz, Ella, Evelyn, and Connie would agree.
Betty grew up on a farm in Vale, SD, and attended school in Newell. She graduated from Newell High School in 1965. Directly after high school, she attended Black Hills Beauty College in Rapid City, SD, and gained her cosmetology license.
Betty met her first husband while he was stationed at Ellsworth and became the mom she always wanted to be when she had her first child, Donald Lamb, who was born in March 1967. She moved to Haverhill, MA, and two years later she gave birth to Don's sister, Laura (Lamb) Campbell in June 1969. When Don and Laura were 5 and 3 years old, Betty and her first husband parted ways and they moved back home to be near her father and family.
Betty met Kendall Darrach and fell in love. He was the partner she desired and they were married April 18, 1975. They were overjoyed at the expectation of their first child. Devastatingly, they lost the baby who they named Christina in January 1975. This tragedy did not tear them apart, but strengthened their faith and their love. They prayed that God would bless them with another child and their prayers were answered with a baby girl, Kendra (Darrach) Lawson in October 1976. Their final, and in his opinion, the perfect child, Nathan Darrach, was born August 1977.
Betty worked part time as a beautician at Bea's Beauty shop in Sturgis. She and Ken raised their children in Sturgis and by 1997, they became empty nesters. Betty and her partners opened their own beauty shop called Generations of Style. Betty enjoyed her partners and her ladies which became her extended family. After many years, Betty retired and devoted her time to her garden. This brought her great joy. She had a yard that belonged in a magazine, so beautiful.
Betty enjoyed many activities with her family, traveling, camping, and fishing to name a few. Many memories were made with her family throughout the years, memories that they will always cherish. Betty lived for her family and bragged them up every chance she got.
Betty's body grew tired and on April 6, 2017, and she passed away peacefully in her home. Her family and friends will miss her dearly but are thankful she is no longer in pain. The gardens in Heaven are even more beautiful now that she is there.
Betty is survived by her husband, Kendall Darrach; sons, Donald Lamb and Nathan Darrach; daughters, Laura (Lamb) Campbell and Kendra (Darrach) Lawson; sister, Connie (Ulrich) Whitaker; grandchildren, Zachary Zapatka, Alex Zapatka, Jeffrey Lamb, Sierra Lamb, Trysten Bowman, August Bowman, Myles Bowman, and Clara Lawson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Ulrich and Lula (Gottman) Ulrich; her siblings, Henry Ulrich, Fritz Ulrich, Jack Ulrich, Helen (Ulrich) Adams, Vivian (Ulrich) Plambeck, Ella (Ulrich) Scholl, and Evelyn Ulrich; her daughter, Christina Darrach; and grandson, Zin.
