Betty Lou Stimes, 89, who resided for many years in Rapid City and Mobridge, SD, passed away December 18, 2025, at Fountain Springs Health Care in Rapid City following a month of care and rehab after suffering a stroke while at home.
Betty was born October 29, 1936 in Mobridge, SD to Fred and Roxie Mae (Carter) Weber. She grew up on the family farm near Trail City and graduated from Timber Lake HS in 1955. She enjoyed working several decades at Leonard’s Studio in Mobridge, where it was rumored she could run the studio better than the boss. She married Lee Stimes in 1972 and made their home in Mobridge through 2009. They moved to Rapid City (Hisega) in 2010 and enjoyed retirement in the Black Hills.
Betty enjoyed photography, never leaving behind her camera, needle work, camping, their many pets, and a good steak on the grill. She was an avid reader all her life, including listening to hundreds of audio books provided by the SD State Library Talking Books Program after her vision was impaired by macular degeneration.
She is survived by her step children Debra Frarey, Victor, NY, Linda (Mike) Spires, Hamburg, NJ, Larry Stimes, Rapid City, SD, and David (Amy) Stimes, Rapid City, SD; nine grandchildren, Craig (Shannon) Hockenberry, Amy (Aaron) Fingar, Brandon Stimes, Zachary Ferrier, Rachael (Joe) Cattin, Rebecca, Emily, Eliana and Adam Stimes; two great grandchildren, Murphy Hockenberry and Callahan Cattin; sister in law Carol Gahagan; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, in-laws, brother Rolland Weber, step son Dale Stimes, and sister in law Joan Hetzel.
