Obituary

Beulah was born January 6, 1922, at Alkali, SD, to Nels and Birget (Lunda) Nelson. She attended country school at Alkali before moving to the Mackey Place on the Elk Creek.

Beulah married Otto Wanhanen at Sturgis on December 18, 1939. The couple moved to Moskee, WY, and Beulah, WY. They returned to the Black Hills and lived at Chicken Ranch south of Strawberry Hill before buying the farm on Old Ridge Road in March of 1943. Beulah remained there for most of her life.

She was a quilter and cross stitcher. She loved her flowers and vegetable gardens. She was known for her farmer's bread and she loved taking care of her animals. She always lent a helping hand to friends and family.

Beulah Wanhanen, 94, Sturgis and formerly of Nemo, died Friday, June 10, 2016, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Chet) Aman, Nemo; two grandsons, Layne Aman, Rapid City, and Bret (Roni) Aman, Nemo; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Aman, Mitchell; two great-grandsons, Garret and Jared Aman, Nemo; numerous nieces and nephews; and one special niece, Patti Tesky, Sturgis.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Otto Wanhanen; three brothers; two sisters; two half-brothers; and three half-sisters.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Committal services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the Nemo Cemetery with Reverend Nick Rombaugh officiating.
