Beverly Jean (Neisent) Karlson, 84, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday May 20, 2023.
She was born July 30, 1938, in Belle Fourche, SD to Emma (Achtziger) and Harold Neisent. She lived with her parents on the farm at Arpan Sd where she attended 1st grade.
Bev's mother passed away at the age of 25 when she was just 4 years old. She went and lived with her paternal grandparents, Jake and Molly Neisent in Nisland, SD, until she was 8 years old. She then went to live with her Maternal grandparents, Henry and Amelia Achtziger in Vale SD.
Her dad Harold came home from his Naval service during World War 2 and met and married her stepmom, Mildred Henwood. She lived with them in Terraville, SD, where she attended grade school. She went to high school in Lead SD.
On August 7, 1956, Bev married Jim Karlson at Miles City, Montana. To this union 5 children were born: Ky, Karrol, Steve, Brett and Rusty. She also had a stepson, Karl. The family lived in Belle Fourche, Terraville, and in Nisland for 48 years. Bev and Jim were married 56 years.
Bev worked at several jobs, always serving people, but her heart was in nursing, so in 1989, at age 50 she went to nursing school in Rapid City, SD, and earned her LPN License. She went to work at Ft Meade Hospital in Sturgis, SD, and loved serving our Veterans. She worked there for 20 years. She loved the Veterans, her job, and won many awards. She also developed wonderful friendships there.
Bev is survived by her little dog and best companion, Gidgit; her son, Ky (Sara) Reno, Nevada; grandchildren, Dusty and Brianna; her daughter, Karrol (Bryant Herman) Nisland, SD; grandchildren, Josh, Nick (Kelsey), Lindsay (Cory Sheelen); Steve's children, Kimberly (Ben Lang), Kory, Kyle; son. Brett (Cathy) Reno Nevada, grandchildren, Chad (Kayla), James (Yuki), Stephanie, Destiney (Jacob Hamilton), 1st Lt Connor; son, Rusty (Tammy) Whitewood SD; grandchildren, Brian (Stephanie), Brandi, Colby; stepson, Karl (Karen) Texarkana, Tx; granddaughters, Kelly and Hannah; 2 brothers, Larry Neisent and David Neisent; 3 sisters, Grace Hauge, Nancy Island and Peggy Bauernfeind; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim; son, Steve; an infant, brother Roger; her parents and grandparents, several aunts, uncles, and nephews.
Bev was loved and cherished by her family and friends and will be missed tremendously.
Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood, SD, on June 23, 2023, at 11:00 am with Pastor David Baer officiating.
