Obituary

Sturgis - Beverly Rose Tarrant, 83 of Sturgis passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Spearfish Regional Hospital. She was born on June 10th, 1928, to Wilma (Leafgreen) and Lloyd Houdek in Hyde County, she attended school in Highmore until her parents moved to Sturgis in 1946. She then attended St. Martins Academy where she received her diploma. Beverly worked for Kessler's Food Market and Haley Hardware Store as a clerk until she married Jerry Tarrant in 1949. The couple moved to Faith where Jerry was a barber. There, two of their three sons were born; Greg and Mike. They moved back to Sturgis where Beverly became a dental hygienist for Doctor Woods. She then worked as a dental hygienist at Ft. Meade. Bev and Jerry's third son, Chris was born in Sturgis. She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where she also taught CCD classes and served on the Funeral Lunch team. The family wishes to thank Ron Anderson, Sonja Welke and the staff at Foothills Assisted Living, who took such good care of Beverly for the past seven years. Special thanks to Fr. Arnold Kari for his spiritual care of Bev throughout the years. Bev's kindness, generosity, and sense of humor will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Survivors include her son, Greg (Patti) Tarrant, Marion, Illinois; a granddaughter, Alyssa Tarrant, Marion, Illinois; a grandson, Kerry Tarrant, Rapid City; and sister, Darlene (Chuck) Valades of Sturgis, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Wilma Houdek; her husband, Jerry; two sons, Mike and Chris Tarrant; a grandson, Mathew Tarrant; a twin sister, Beatrice; a sister, Bette Winter and her brother, Dick Houdek. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 31st 2012 at the Black Hills Funeral Home, 1440 Junction Ave, in Sturgis. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1st at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Fr. Arnold Kari presiding. Interment will follow at 12:00 noon at Black Hills Natinal Cemetery near Sturgis. Memorials have been established to the St. Martin's Restoration Fund and the Alzheimer's Association.
