Bonnie Lee (O'Dea) Jones of Vale, South Dakota passed away at Monument Heath Hospital in Sturgis, SD on December 21, 2024. Bonnie was the youngest of five, born August 13, 1946 to Michael and Virginia (Martin) O'Dea in Oral, SD.

She attended school in Hot Springs, SD and is remembered stating she, "played along the banks of the Cheyenne River". On July 1, 1966 she married Earl Thomas Jones and lived in Pierre, SD for a short time before moving to Sturgis, SD. While living in Sturgis, Earl worked at Homestake Mine.

In 1971 Earl and Bonnie adopted their son, Alan, followed by daughter Donna in 1973. They also raised their oldest grandson, Angel Jones. While living in Sturgis, Bonnie worked a variety of jobs. They later bought a farm near Bear Butte, just north of Sturgis before moving a final time to their farm at Vale, SD.

Bonnie loved animals. She raised sheep, cows, and registered goats. She was also well known for her fondness for cats. Bonnie was involved in 4-H, FFA, and Boy Scouts helping her children and grandchildren.

Bonnie will be deeply missed by her son Alan Earl Jones of Loveland, CO; Donna Lorena Jones of Lead, SD; grandchildren, Frankie Jones, Angel Thomas Jones, Melvin Jacob DeSersa, and Tyler John DeSersa; sister, Jane Knapp of Rapid City, SD; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Thomas Jones; parents, Michael & Virginia O'Dea; and siblings, Jim O'Dea, Loren O'Dea, and JoAnn Merwin.

There will be a visitation on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, SD. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, SD at 11:00 am.

A memorial has been established in her honor at Twin City Animal Shelter in Lead, SD.
