Boyd Johnson was born May 17, 1923, east of Columbia, SD, on his grandma's farm. He passed from this life on November 12, 2017, at the age of 94 ½ in Spearfish, SD.

Boyd enlisted in the army in 1942 and spent 29 months on Guadalcanal in the south Pacific during WWII. After his honorable discharge, he married Frances Hinderks on June 3, 1947, in Hecla, SD. Boyd attended college in Logan, UT, and USC in Los Angeles. He worked 27 years as an Occupational Therapist at the Ft Meade VA Hospital and retired in 1981.

Boyd is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fran; children, Jerry (Randa) Johnson, Rapid City, Dee Johnson (wife of deceased son, Bob), Gillette, WY, Nathan (Cheryl) Johnson, Gillette, WY, Joan (Chuck) Mutchler, Spearfish, Patty (Chuck) Dennis, Plymouth, MN, and Bill (Tracy) Johnson, Tuolumne, CA; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Gleason, and her husband, Chuck; and his son, Bob Johnson.

His family would like to thank the staff at Edgewood Vista for their kindness and compassion these past 2 years. We trust that dad is reunited with his deceased family and is also enjoying the perfect gin rummy hand with his card buddies. We love you and will miss you Dad!

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, with family present, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Fr. Arnold Kari officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please share your time and love with an elderly person. Memorials can also be made to the Sturgis Public Library.
