Brian Keith Hughes, 31, Valley Center, KS, died Thursday March 2, 2006 in Rapid City, SD, due to an accident.

Visitation will be noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday March 6, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor guard follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established.

Brian was born May 23, 1974 at Sturgis, SD, to Fritz and Verla (Pickerd) Hughes. He was raised on a ranch south of Plainview until 1978. The family moved to Hot Springs, SD, where he lived until 1981. They returned to Sturgis and he graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 1992. Brian joined the United States Army and served his country honorably until his discharge in 1995. He returned to the Black Hills where he was employed by Tri mac Trucking Company. He married Patricia Lynn Gomez at Beeville, TX on April 22, 2000. They moved to Kansas in 2001where he was employed as a diesel mechanic.

Survivors include his daughter, Nicole Marie Hughes, Valley Center, KS; parents Fritz and Verla Hughes, Nisland; in laws, Joe and Rosalinda Gomez, Beeville, TX; four brothers, Tim Hughes, Sturgis, Tom Hughes and his wife Katrina, St. Onge, SD, John Hughes and his wife Shauna, Rapid City, Marty Hughes and his wife Heather, Black Hawk; two sisters, Melodie Petersen and her husband Robert, Rochester, WA, Doreen Hughes, Black Hawk, SD; maternal grandparents, Fletta Hatheway, Watertown, WI, Orville and Mary Pickerd, Sundance, WY; also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Lynn, grandfather John Hughes and grandmother Rachel Kaplan.
